Embracing At-Home Beauty: Our Favourite Products Right Now
Looking for lockdown’s silver linings has become tiresome, if we’re truly honest – who doesn’t want to get back to some semblance of normality, as soon as humanly possible? We’re drawing strength from the following:
- Setting boundaries between work and play (and sticking to them). Switch off Slack notifications, set an ‘out of office’ message for when you’re offline, and avoid screens where possible once the working day is done.
- Self-care. Not just bubble baths and fluffy slippers (but more on that later) – we’re talking time set aside to listen to your favourite podcast, cooking veggie-laden meals, long lie-ins wherever possible, and fresh air at every opportunity. Even if that’s a 9pm walk around the block! Remember, you’re essentially a walking pot plant with feelings, so water and sunlight is key.
- At-home beauty treatments. After months of slouching around in pjs, we’ve felt the urge to glam up in Lockdown 3.0. A little lipstick for a Zoom call here, a moisturising face mask there. Check out the products making us smile again, below.
Skin Republic 24k Gold Hand Masks
If you’re anything like us, your hands are in need of some extra love right now, thanks to drying anti-bacterial gels, freezing weather and central heating. These nutrient-rich and luxurious foil hand masks use thermotherapy to heat up and rejuvenate skin, inspired by professional salon treatments. They’re super easy to use and only take 20 minutes – simply pop on the gloves and let the ingredients work their magic. They’re even touch screen friendly (put really, put the phone down).
Hugo Boss Bottled Intense Eau De Parfum
Stuck at home during the pandemic, our perfume bottles mostly stood on the bathroom shelf, neglected. But as the days get brighter and we turn our thoughts to socialising (and having a general spruce up) perfume has re-entered our beauty routine – and our partner’s. We spotted this gorgeous Huge Boss Bottled Intense on sale at Perfume Direct (£39.99 down from £50) and couldn’t wait to spoil our lockdown buddy with a burst of apple and green orange blossom to catapult them back into society. A truly luxurious fragrance with notes of cedarwood, clove and cinnamon. Check out the rest of the site for tons of deals on perfumes – you’ll find plenty of treats for you, too.
Cha Vontz Collagen Boost Vitamin C Serum
We adore this new serum from Cha Vontz via Green People, because it combines *all* the skin-nourishing ingredients we kept hearing about in 2020. Cutting edge botanicals work together with Vitamin C and Hyaluronic acid to bind with water as the serum sinks deep into the skin, lessening the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Super lightweight and suitable for all skin types (unlike all Hyaluronic acid products), we’re hooked on applying this before bed. Clean, eco-friendly and guaranteed no cruelty to animals – what’s not to love?

St. Moriz Advanced Tanning Mousse
Spring’s going to be here before you know it, and with UV rays continually being touted as super damaging to skin, we’re always on the lookout for tanning alternatives. St. Moriz’s Colour Correct mousse promises a long-lasting result, again infused with that star anti-ageing ingredient, Hyaluronic acid (plus Vitamin B5). We love it because it’s available in four shades, and provides an instant colour which gradually darkens over a period of eight hours. It’s transfer-resistant, so you can go about your day while it develops, then wash off in the evening to reveal a really natural glow.
Available in Boots now, and in Superdrug this March, £9.99.
And the most important thing? Getting your beauty sleep…
A great night’s sleep (plus drinking plenty of water) is the key tool in your beauty arsenal. Try as we might, we’ve never seemed to be able to recreate that sumptuous hotel bed feeling at home – until the chance came to try out Silent Night’s Hotel Collection. Hypoallergenic (therefore kind to skin) with an elegant, embossed finish, the Pillow Pair is machine washable, ruling out any dust allergies that can make eyes puffy and noses sore. Use two pillows for medium support, or pop one between your knees and sleep on your side to assist with lymphatic drainage.
