Foodie Father’s Day Gift Guide

Don’t let lockdown narrow your options for original Father’s Day gifts – there are plenty of gorgeous bits to choose from online, that can be enjoyed at home or on a day out.

We’re rounding up the best new products kindly sent to us for review (plus old favourites we highly recommend), from *stupendous* kitchen scissors, to Côte d’Azur-inspired gin, via vegan curry kits.

Brunch Blend, Cafepod Coffee Co., £4.50

Gather the troops and start smashing, poaching and toasting! Cafepod offer a variety of delicious blends available in ground roast, whole bean and Nespresso-compatible, perfect for enjoying a lengthy brunch in the garden (after all, we’ve got time!). We tried the ground Brunch Blend, enjoying its sweet, smooth finish with a homemade attempt at Dishoom’s chilli cheese toast (which went rather well we might add – more on that later).

The Dishoom Cookery Book, £26

A flurry of Whatsapp messages were shared by well-meaning friends across the country at the beginning of the UK’s lockdown, trading PDFs of beloved cook books ‘gifted’ by restaurants feeling the pinch. A little research uncovered this as an act of piracy, with Dishoom taking to Twitter, imploring fans to buy a copy of the real thing. Already in possession of this beautiful tome, we can whole-heartedly recommend you invite Dad to put these strange times to good use – mastering Dishoom’s beloved Masala Chai, Bacon Naan Roll, Lamb Raan and unbeatable Spicy Chilli-Tomato Jam, knowing you’ve supported a stellar business in the process.

Cap Gin, £35 (Order From Website)

We’re *all* dreaming of a summer holiday right now, gazing out across azure waters with a G&T in hand. Cap Gin aimed to capture this very feeling long before words like ‘social distancing’ and ‘lockdown’ became part of our lexicon, created with care using the London dry method. Bottling the sophisticated beauty of the South Of France, it delivers a delightfully crisp, light tipple – perfect in Negronis, French 75s and Martinis (perhaps not all at once, but at this point, who’s judging?).

AnySharp 5-In-1 Scissors, £12.99

Super handy to have on hand at home, these AnySharp scissors can do everything from cutting through tempered steel to spatchcocking a chicken. We challenge you to find us a Dad that won’t appreciate how useful they are.

Tikka Masala Spice Box, £45

A curry night box filled with all of the ingredients needed to make a delicious Tikka Masala or Cashew and Coconut Korma, this vegan family feast is perfect for practicing chefs. We had the (beautifully fresh) ingredients and recipe card delivered on a Friday night (they can arrive on Thursdays too) and set to work chopping and frying before adding the expertly-made sauce and daal made ahead by Spice Box. Enough to feed (at least) four people, a huge bag of naan bread and samosas accompanies fluffy rice. The flavours are stunningly rich, and it’s super fun to put together. If Dad’s still a little tentative, there are even step-by-step YouTube videos to help him along. A real treat, with less of the stress.

Olly’s Massive Nuts Gift Box, £25

London-based brothers Olly and Sam Hiscocks usually provide delicious nuts for airlines, pubs and bars, pivoting their business to online following the limitations of Covid-19. Raising funds and awareness for testicular cancer, 10% of the proceeds of every Massive Nuts Gift Box sold will be donated to The Oddballs Foundation, to help raise awareness of testicular cancer.

Montezuma’s Chocolate Buttons, £28.99

Montezuma’s have gone in on Father’s Day gift options, and we’ve settled on this pretty jar of organic buttons (namely because we’ll be pilfering the jar to display in our kitchen when Dad’s done).

HECK Sausages, prices vary

Raising money for Prostate Cancer UK, these Father’s Day packs will be available in over 10,000 stores across the UK for one week from June 13th, including Sainsbury’s, ASDA and Tesco (plust Heckfood.co.uk). Including a pack of HECK!’s best-selling 97% pork sausages and a blank card, it’s a sweet token to start his Sunday off right. The company will also kick off the fundraising with a guaranteed £5,000!
