Dine Back In Time At Franco’s, St James
One of the very first Italian restaurants in London, Franco’s is beloved by local residents. Here you can begin your day with a hearty English breakfast, jig about in the jazz lounge of a Saturday night, or end the week with a cigar on the pavement, taking in some of the best people watching London has to offer.
For us, though, a visit revolves around Friday night dinner. The A La Carte menu boats classic pasta that never fails to please – strozzapreti with prawns, broad beans & lemon, or rocket fusilli with tuna, black olives & confit tomato. Our favourite? Well, ours and the rest of the city’s… their ever-popular linguine with lobster, garlic, tomato & chilli.
Don’t miss starters, either – octopus carpaccio with fennel, orange & lemon dressing is gargantuan – a tender, meaty portion threatening to fill you up entirely. Then there’s pea and mint risotto, roasted hake with spring vegetables & mussels or honey-glazed duck breast with baby carrots & button onions.
ANYTHING ELSE? Staff were super courteous and very accommodating of a diner in our party’s extreme nut allergy, offering special breads and double checking the ingredients of all dishes – a big thumbs up from us.
