Champagne In The Clouds: Searcys Diamond Brunch

WHAT? A four-course brunch with 360-degree views, at the very top of The Gherkin, one of London’s most iconic landmarks. Oh, and the chance to find a £1000 diamond. No biggie.

WHERE? Right in the heart of bankerland, you’ll see some of the city’s most awesome sights, all the way to the countryside from your window table at Searcys. While waiting for your four-course feast to arrive, you’ll be poured a glass of Champagne – how civilised. Don’t glug it all in one go, mind – there’s a small chance there’s something sparkly lurking at the bottom of your flute. Across the Christmas period, one lucky guest will find an Embee Jewels of London-certified diamond in their drink!

At the bottom of every glass of Dom Pérignon Vintage Blanc 2009 lies a sparkling stone, one of which is a real, full-cut brilliant diamond. Once you have finished your glass of Champagne, you will be able to take the stone to the on-site diamond inspector to discover if you have the real jewel. The lucky winner will then be announced at the end of the day.

Try not to fill up on the pastries (course one), because it’s soon time to choose from British cured meats, smoked salmon, ricotta or Caesar salad to start you off, followed by a larger plate of eggs, Lake District black pudding, baked butterbeans, Bavette steak or salmon cake. For dessert, there’s a waffle, sorbets, chocolate ganache tart and Eton Mess on the menu. plus a selection of ice creams and cheeses.

HOW MUCH? At £120 per head it’s a little pricey, though the views really are wonderful (and it’s a fraction of the winnings if you *do* cop that diamond). Book at sundown to really make the most of the vista, in all its glorious variations.
