Slap bang in the middle of Bethnal Green, The Hive Of Vyner Street is a wine bar cum cafe focusing on organic food combinations with surprising flavours and textures, mainly due to inventive vegan substitutes. There’s cold-pressed juice to detoxify, nourishing food, buzzy coffee and organic wine in such abundance it’ll make your soul sing.
It’s the sort of place you might stumble into when nursing a stonking hangover – keen to gulp organic Bloody Marys and wolf down food contributed by local biodynamic farmers, praying the right combination of wholesome ingredients can set you straight.
Drop in at breakfast time and you can rescue an otherwise tragic day with avocado, sunny side up egg, buffalo mozzarella and rocket on toasted slow-fermented sourdough, or a start fresh with raw Acai bowl, filled with ‘The Hive sprouted granola’ made with hemp and pumpkin seeds, topped with coconut, bananas, berries and macadamia.
Dinner allows for more experimentation than lunch menu-wise. We recommend the Hive Burger, King of the fully-fledged veggie and vegan menu, save for one plate of smoked salmon and sourdough. Plant-based (made up of mushroom, courgette and pumpkin with chutney, coleslaw, and rocket on slow-fermented sourdough bun) it’s thick and filling, though admittedly lacking the meaty texture only carnal pleasures can provide.
WHY GO? To feel infinitely wholesome – the vibe is laid-back and cool, staff supremely passionate about their mission to provide properly good-for-you-and-the-planet nourishment. And the coffee is banging.
