REVIEW: The Square Serviced Apartments, Chancery Lane

REVIEW: The Square Serviced Apartments, Chancery Lane

WHAT? A fully equipped, modern apartment bang in the middle of London, a few minute’s walk from Holborn and Covent Garden yet brilliantly placed for a business trip in St. Paul’s or Farringdon.

WHERE? Set in an elegant Georgian building letting in almost no outside noise, The Square apartments provide a spacious sanctuary moments from the hustle and bustle. We were pleased to find hardwood flooring and ultra modern fittings, meaning it’s super easy to keep clean and tidy while remaining cosy and warm. The bedroom was a good size, with plenty of wardrobe storage and an extremely comfy bed – though the window blind was tricky to operate.

That said, a detailed handbook shows you where to find local amenities as well as how to work the heating, iron, washing machine and large flatscreen TV – brilliant if you find it hard to get to grips with new appliances. We made full use of the large kitchen space, cooking up a storm with the oven, microwave, toaster and large sink for easy washing up (though there’s a dishwasher, too – heaven) before pounding the pavements in Covent Garden and a hearty lunch at nearby brunch spot The Black Penny. Arriving home exhausted, it was wonderful to wash off the day with a powerful rainfall shower and fluffy towels.

A good value alternative to AirBnb (sleeping in a stranger’s home isn’t everyone’s cup of tea), this apartment has all the luxury of a hotel with the convenience of coming and going as you’d do in your own home. We loved the freedom of dropping the key in the hallway’s postbox when it was time to check out, with none of the usual quibbling over how many bottles of water (OK, wine) we’d taken from the mini bar.

HOW MUCH? From £168 per night (sleeping two people), which considering the large size of the apartment, amenities and central location, we don’t find to be too dear at all.
