REVIEW: Orange Buffalo @ Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen
WHAT: One of Hoxton’s original and best live music venues invites you to try fiery fried chicken with slap-in-the-face sauces.
WHERE: Just off Old Street and seconds from the mains streets of Shoreditch is Hoxton Square, home to a handful of great restaurants, pubs and bars.
Hoxton Square Bar & Kitchen hosts live gigs and parties most nights of the week, and now you can line your stomach (or strip its lining, your choice) with an array of spicy snacks from The Orange Buffalo.
Founders Nick and Mike came up with the concept after a US road trip, bringing The Orange Buffalo’s New York-style wings to London’s Street Feast a few years back.
WHY GO? In the summer of 2012 they found a permanent home for their food truck within The Old Truman Brewery, but this is your chance to roll your sleeves up within bricks and mortar.
First, we sampled ‘The Wings’; eight wings served with your choice of sauces including BBQ, Original, Woof Woof, Vincent and The Viper (the latter coming with a strict heat warning we can confirm is entirely necessary).
Next, the towering Buffalo Chicken Sandwich – tender breaded chicken thigh with your choice of OB hot sauce, melted cheese, blue cheese dressing and lettuce in a toasted potato bun. Sides serve up more carbs, and then some – think criss-cross sweet potato fries, mozzarella sticks, curly fries, onion rings and slaw.
Delicious, messy, diet-busting grub that goes down all too well with a beer (or four). The perfect post-gig patty, we’ll be back for more.
