REVIEW: Primrose Bakery, Covent Garden

REVIEW: Primrose Bakery, Covent Garden

In search of a truly stunning cake for a sibling’s 25th birthday, we stumbled upon Primrose Bakery in Covent Garden. A delightfully twee cake shop in the middle of bustling central, it offers all manner of celebration cakes, plus cookies, brownies, cupcakes and delights of the loaf/slice/biscuit/pie/tart variety. Basically, it’s got all manner of sweet treats covered – it’s choosing between them that creates difficulty.

After much deliberation, we opted for a S’mores celebration cake (£52.55). Primrose Bakery‘s take on the American dessert is a classic two-layer dark chocolate cake, filled with silky, dark chocolate buttercream icing and crushed Oreos. Not sweet enough for you? They cover the whole thing in a light, marshmallow icing, and to finish the job, sprinkle crushed digestive biscuits and dark chocolate shavings around the edge. As we all know, marshmallows are nothing without a campfire, so finally, the covering is blow-torched for a ‘roasted’ effect. Even better, they offer a personalised piped message, additional decorations, sprinkles and glitter upon request.

Comparing the cake we picked up from the store with the website’s glossy photo, we were super happy with the result – and it tasted absolutely delicious to boot. Next time you need a stand-out birthday or wedding cake, we’d highly recommend hopping on the tube to Covent Garden.
