REVIEW: Butterscotch Bakery, White City Place

London foodies worth their (pink Himalayan) salt will have already heard of Bea Vo – the Virginian chef behind the belly-busting Feed Your Soul family bringing the best of American food to this side of the pond.

When you’ve had your fill of hearty plates at Stax Diner, nostalgia-laden soul food at Boondocks, and a fiery chicken wing takeaway from The Famous Flames, look up Bea’s latest outpost for a sweet treat to finish things off.

Opening mini-chain Bea’s Of Bloomsbury some years ago, Bea has now moved on to Butterscotch Bakery. Setting up its first cafe in White City Place this week, it’s bound to draw crowds with decadent frosting and beautiful decoration. We browsed the beautiful website for all manner of delectable desserts, testing the online service – and the photos alone had us drooling. From huge Truffle Maltesers Cakes to Raspberry Victoria Sponge Cupcakes via cookies and cheesecake, once thing’s for sure – you’ll need to leave your diet at the door.

We sampled an 8-inch Lemon Berry Cheesecake (guidelines say it feeds 12-16, but our party of 8 polished it off just fine). The cheesecake is built on a digestive biscuit base, topped with lemon curd and fresh berries – a cool classic that was zesty without being tangy, creamy but not too heavy.

Elsewhere on the menu there are all-American treats worth every one of the approximate billion calories we presume they contain (no cake can look that good and be low fat, nor should it be), including Kinder Bueno Truffle Cake, Custom Printed Cupcakes, Oreos Truffle Cake, Red Velvet Cake, Strawberries & Cream Cake and more. We’d recommend getting in touch if you’ve got a hen party, baby shower or a birthday coming up – they even provide ‘afternoon tea in a box’, a sweet idea for an outdoor picnic come summer. Butterscotch can cater to pretty much any occasion, and if the rest of the menu is as delightful as the cheesecake we tried, we’ll be calling back for sure.
