REVIEW: The Diner, Camden

REVIEW: The Diner, Camden

WHAT? A newly refurbished branch of The Diner in Camden, serving up pancakes, burgers, shakes, dogs and eggs with an All-American smile.

WHY GO? If you’re gonna do something wrong, you might as well do it right. Very little on The Diner’s menu is healthy and you wouldn’t want it to be – this is the place for colossal hangovers and messy, boozy catch up dinners.

It’s nigh on impossible to choose from the all day breakfast (literally, all day) and bigger, meatier dishes, but we settled on humble classics – wet fries, a burger and a milkshake.

STAR DISH: Check out the ‘Dirty Diner Double Cheese Burger’ (pictured above) – that’s  two 4oz beef patties, a US cheese slice, Diner burger sauce and pickles on a smooth brioche bun (yep, brioche is still a thing). A pile of oozy, juicy, naughty goodness, we were full within four or five bites, but soldiered on to devour one of the most delicious burgers we can remember eating in ages.

The fries offering is extensive – perfect for potato purists, they come up crunchy, hot and crisp – until slathered with your choice of toppings, that is. We tried hanger fries  – slathered in cheese, smoky onions and Diner burger sauce, this is truly indulgent (though we recommend a week of green salads in solid preparation for this feast).

Other options that caught our eye including tater tots loaded with beef chili, blue cheese, sour cream & scallions, as well as ‘WTF Fries’ – pictured at the top of this article you’ll see French fries topped with shredded bbq pork, cheese, fried eggs, bacon, gravy & chilli flakes. NOM.

And for dessert?  Try the pancakes (look at the Red Velvet!) or an Oreo milkshake (we know. WE KNOW). Even better, a ‘hard shake’, AKA ice cream topped up with booze. We fancy The Kraken, spiked with Kraken rum, banana ice cream, maple syrup & malt. And that’s before you get to the root beer floats, Coke floats, ice teas and cocktails galore.

We visited the Camden branch, shining bright after an extensive refurb. Check out the garden area – perfect for a foodie Friday afternoon with friends.
