TRY THIS: Wahaca’s At Home Taco Kits
In the midst of a Unilever/Tesco showdown that’s seen everything from Marmite to Ben & Jerry’s yanked from the shelves of one of the biggest supermarkets in the country, people are panicking.
WHAT’S FOR DINNER TONIGHT, THEN?
Um, these uh-mazing taco kits from Wahaca, actually. Available in 900 Tesco shops around the UK, they comprise packs of marinade, corn tortillas and tomatillo salsa, in three heat levels.
We ordered one of each, because we’re mega greedy, and presented them to a Wahaca-loving tortilla fiend as a treat to celebrate their promotion (our Food Editor’s boyfriend. Sickeningly cute, huh?).
We’re pleased to report that we (and said boyfriend, crucially) *loved* these. They’re super easy to use, awesome to keep in the cupboard for evenings when you’re feeling uninspired but want something fiery in your belly, and look pretty, to boot.

Once you’ve decided how much spice you can handle (we loved the Tomatillo and Garlic Mojo, because we’re admittedly pathetic), all you have to worry about is which meat or fish you’ll add to the mix. Other options include Tomato & Smoky Chipotle (medium) and Fiery Habareno & Achiote (full on spice attack).
We added 500g of chicken to the garlic and chipotle marinade, left things to settle for an hour or so then threw it all in the pan. Tacos in the microwave, tomatillo sauce spread liberally, a few bell peppers and onions, some homemade guac on the side and boom, dinner’s served.
HOW MUCH? Start off with the Taco Kit (£3.69) and add extra tortillas for £1.40, marinade for £1, and two salsas at £1.79 (that’s enough for 3/4 people, easy – don’t forget meat or fish is on top).
WHERE? In 900 Tesco stores across the country, there’s bound to be one near you. If not, order it online.
