REVIEW: Yard Sale Pizza, Hackney & Finsbury Park
WHAT: A small but perfectly formed menu of five excellent sourdough pizzas (with a few turbo-charged side options and rotating specials), to eat in or take away in Hackney and Finsbury Park.
WHERE: While the Clapton branch is tiny (voted best restaurant in Hackney, despite having room for about ten people to sit down), the new Finsbury Park venture offers a few seats in a cool, pared back setting.
The blue and orange, diner-like theme is cool, but we think this pizza’s best enjoyed outside in hazy sunshine, with one of their Brooklyn beers (or three). Plus, you get one of these cute takeaway boxes ^
WHY GO: The garlic pizza bread with cheese and Marmite is worth a visit in itself, alongside the homemade Chimichurri and Home-Smoked BBQ sauces.
We sampled an 18″ pizza, half ‘Cour Blimey’ (courgette ribbons, pancetta and black pepper) and half their famed ‘Holy Pepperoni’ (Cobble Lane pepperoni, regular pepperoni and spicy Nduja sausage) – plus a super light buffalo mozzarella salad.
Perfectly cooked, hot and fresh, there’s just no topping this place (get it? *Topping*? …Guys? Ummm, guys?).
What’s more, you can boast about sharing the same taste as Macaulay Culkin – he once turned up to the Hackney branch to play some tunes with his pizza-themed band, Pizza Underground. Yes, they got bottled and booed off stage, yes, the whole thing was a bit weird, but damn, that pizza was tasty.
HOW MUCH: Minimum delivery order £15 with a £1.50 delivery charge, pizzas start from £7.50, sides from £3.
