NEW: Songkran (Thai New Year) At Nipa Thai, Lancaster London

Nipa Thai Table

In a city crawling with hyper-trendy concept restaurants and new openings that come and go without trace, it pays to know a few old school haunts you can count on for wonderful food and great service.

The Lancaster London hotel is one such place, a lasting vestige of traditional London glamour peppered with modern touches. It’s best reserved for special occasions or a pay packet present to yours truly, perched across from Hyde Park with beautiful views and an awesome Thai restaurant – Nipa Thai.

April 2016 marks Songkran, the official Thai New Year – and what better time to make a reservation.

On Thursday 14 April, Friday 15 April and Saturday 16 April, you can celebrate the milestone with three extraordinary evenings of Thai treats, centered around the “Taste of Thailand” tasting menu.

Run by an all-female kitchen brigade, the evening starts with cocktails in the Lounge Bar at 6pm. Watch an iconic Songkran water blessing symbolising cleansing and renewal for the New Year, then a performance by professional Thai dancers. Nipa Thai ingredients

Next comes the feast, dishes spanning everything from Spicy Green Papaya Salad, Grilled Chicken with Sticky Rice; and King Prawns in Green Curry with orchids dotted about the table for the full effect (guests are invited to take them home when the meal is finished – could this sound any more perfect?).

But there’s more – keen tweeters should jump on the #NipaAnniversary competition, inviting entrants to upload snaps of their evening for a chance to win an overnight stay at the iconic hotel, or another dinner for two. Places are filling up fast, so get booking.
