REVIEW: Back In 5 Minutes, Shoreditch
Step through the nondescript door of one clothing shop on Brick Lane and you’ll find the Narnia of dining experiences – Back In 5 Minutes, a speakeasy-style dining spot hidden just beyond the coats.
A small team is dedicated to carving out intimate evenings in this bustling city, with shared tables and vintage furniture upping the nostalgia factor – yes, you’ve found yourself in an era where strangers speak to eachother, and even make conversation at the table.
A sample menu might begin with a glass of Grey Goose Le Fizz and ‘something from the kitchen’ (something delicious, we guarantee) followed by seared scallops with white chocolate and salmon caviar beurre blanc and a glass of Les Granges de Félines.
Mains range from chorizo-crusted salmon fillet baked fennel with croutons to BBQ pulled beef smoked sweetcorn, black bean and avocado salsa – tucking into the cosy dishes, you’ll make friends with likeminded diners as you break bread and discuss how you happened upon such a unique little place.
Two courses are £30, three £35, but for special occasions, we recommend splashing out on the six course feast – a true experience at the comparatively cheap price of £45. Dessert is irresistible – vanilla bavaroise blood orange and basil or a flat white coffee brulee. The menu does come with a service charge over 10%, which brings this experience to the pricier side of novelty dining, but the expertly-cooked dishes are worth saving up for.
