There’s no denying that colour can lift your mood and when it comes to style an injection of primary brights works wonders for the spirit.

The attitude that comes with wearing a brightly coloured, shaggy faux fur coat or a beautifully printed shift dress is one of cool, self-assurance. As long as you opt for colours to suit your skin tone, then a strong colour palette tends to suit every shape and size. Bold colours make a statement, they say ‘I’m here and I’m confident in my own skin’ and there’s nothing more attractive.

FAIR SKIN: Bright colours are great but avoid pastels and neutrals.

OLIVE/MEDIUM SKIN: You can wear most colours but avoid those with yellow or green undertones, as these can be too similar to your own skin tone.

DARKER SKIN: Again avoid colours too similar to your own skin tone but you can pretty much wear anything else.

London Fashion Week launches at the end of this week and one of my favourite catwalk designer’s to showcase is Roksanda Ilincic (pictured top and bottom), primarily for her great use of colour. Each season she displays a collection of beautifully rich, vivid hues which help accentuate curves to celebrate the female form. Roksanda designs for real women, which is often not the case with high fashion designers, and her shapes and silhouettes are intended to flatter the figure.

Bold, bright colours can instantly elevate the mood, but there are also some industry style tips that will also ensure you look your best, whatever your shape.

BELTS & ACCESSORIES: Belts are a great way to accentuate the waist, drawing the eye inwards and enhancing a nipped in, slimmer silhouette. The right accessories can totally transform a look and no stylist or designer is without a great selection. Think a statement necklace, stacking bangles and the perfect handbag that looks good with everything.

Summer Wedding style tips at FashionBite

KNOW YOUR OWN BODY: Last year, supermodel Kate Moss shocked the fashion world by saying she never wears mid-calf length outfits because of her bow legs. And we all thought she could pull off anything. Kate cleverly avoids wearing the length that doesn’t suit her and the result is she always looks great. Sounds simple but it works. Have a play around with different lengths and shapes and get to know what suits you. Take selfies in the mirror, try on with friends in the room to get their opinion or ask a shop assistant and you will soon get to know your own shape.

ACCENTUATE A FACIAL FEATURE: Another fashion/beauty trick is to accentuate one facial feature, which draws the eye to it. Opt for bold lips in a deep, berry hue and keep eye make-up to a bare minimum (as seen at Roksanda Ilincic AW15, below), or go for dark smoky eyes and leave lips natural. Don’t try to do too much at once with your beauty look, otherwise features end up competing with one another and it dilutes the overall impact.
