East Meets West at Golborne Road’s West Thirty Six
For a little taste of the East in West London head to West Thirty Six, a new restaurant/bar concept which draws inspiration from the raft of East London private members clubs (such as Shoreditch House), featuring a delicious menu which tastes as good as it looks.
In a private dining/sofa area upstairs, we whiled away a lazy Saturday afternoon (the boyfriend, myself and Livia). The executive chef, poached from another well known haunt, has devised a menu where attention to detail and presentation are spot on and as each dish was brought out we couldn’t wait to dive in.
For Starters we opted for beef carpaccio, white bean hummus, smoked maple, chipotle chicken wings and rye bread with house smoked salmon and cucumber dill…
The restaurant prepares a lot of its ingredients in house, including smoking its own fish and hanging out beef to age for 39 days or more and the result is absolutely superb. We sampled the signature beef tasting board, which gave us a 120g cut of ribeye, fillet, rump and sirloin and is great for sharing. (The boyfriend was in heaven.)
To accompany our platter of beef, we had side dishes which included roasted cauliflower, pomegranate and hazelnuts, shoestring fries, mac ‘n’ cheese and purple sprouting brocolli with chili.
For dessert, we chose apple cinnamon pie with custard and were brought the whole pie, which was the served in front of us.
As the evening drew in, the bar and upstairs rooms filled with people looking for a great night out. West Thirty Six clearly caters for the nighttime as much as it does the day and a cool, fashionable crowd piled through the doors.
