Picnic time with Carluccio’s!

Picnic time with Carluccio’s!

About this time last year, we posted about the summer wonder that is a picnic hamper from Carluccio’s. Well our favourite Italian’s only gone and done it again, quite literally pulling another amazing spread out of the bag.

This year, there are three types of hamper to choose from: Vegetarian (for two) Classic (for two) and Bambini (for one). We opted for the Classic, as the meat offering never disappoints – and we were more than impressed with the new menu. Opening our super practical cool bag/hamper (keep it afterwards for homemade picnics galore) we were greeted with a bag filled with fragrant lemon ciabatta – it took serious willpower not to dive straight in.

Next out was a huge pot of mixed olives,  two savoury tarts with spinach, ricotta and pine nuts, and two awesome cold salads – one with farro, courgette, cannellini bean, mint and rocket, and another with pesto and chargrilled vegetables.

Sound like a lot? We’ve barely started – next up was two portions of summery chicken supreme, with parsley and pancetta served with saffron potato and olive salad. Finally, dessert – two individual strawberry tarts and a box of Italian biscuits from Piedmont.

Where to begin. Each dish has been made with only the freshest, finest Italian ingredients, and it really shines through. Stand out plates definitely include the chicken supreme – succulent chicken breasts and creamy potatoes that are enough to fill up picnic-goers regardless of the extras.

And those strawberry tarts… all we can say is that we’ve been back to our nearest Carluccio’s in search of them since trying this hamper – and ordered three between two alongside excellent cups of coffee.

If you’re planning a special picnic or know of a summer birthday coming up, grab one of these and a bottle of Champagne for the ultimate day out – we promise, it will go down a treat (plus you’ll have loads left over for your lunch the next day – making it amazing value for money!)
