Marc Jacobs Final Show For Louis Vuitton
News broke early this morning, confirming what the fashion industry had known for a while, that Marc Jacobs was parting ways with Louis Vuitton after 16 years at the helm of the French design house.
It was confirmed this morning, the day of his Spring/Summer ’14 show at Paris Fashion Week, that this would in fact be his last and he would be leaving to focus on his eponymous label, building it up to prepare for a stock market float. Rumour has it that Nicolas Ghesquière (formerly of Balenciaga) will take over. Exciting times!
In the meantime, Jacob’s final collection for Louis Vuitton was an ode to the showgirl, with decadent headdresses, sequins and skin-tight sheer body suits. A nod to his iconic shows of the past, it also featured parts of the set from them, such as an elavator where Kate Moss appeared from in 2010. This season, the collection and production also took on a mournful tone, predominantly in black, as Jacob’s said goodbye to the end of an era.
