London Fashion Week SS14 (An Intern’s View!)
FashionBite had the help of Jessica Evans interning with us this season. It was her first time at London Fashion Week and here she brings you some of her highlights from Day 2 and Day 3….
DAY 2…
What? School of Swedish Textiles SS14 Show (pictured top)
Where? Fashion Scout
Catwalk Song? Pet Shop Boys, West End Girls
Under the Swedish School of Textiles umbrella was 21 different collections, all designed and created by students on the graduate course. Clashing never looked so good, in one collection colours were mashed up together to create an explosion of pink or blue.
Good news for fans of the chunky polo neck, roll necks are still big news for SS14. Flashes of lime green and ultra-thin spaghetti straps meant the 90’s trend was clearly not going away in a hurry.
The colour that we couldn’t seem to get away from, not only in the School of Swedish Textiles show, but in most of the LFW, was pink! Big for autumn/winter, this seems to be continuing into next season. From candy pink to bright fuchsia, pink is still going strong.
Favourite Exhibition? Hellen Van Rees (Image Credit: Fashion 156.com)
Imagine you’re watching your favourite runway show, you’re front row and you see an amazing outfit that you just fall in love with and you can’t stop staring at it, you then press pause on a remote control and are able to get up out of your seat and walk over to the model and truly look at the outfit. You get to look at all the detail and really appreciate the beautiful work.
In a unique experience I got to experience this, well kind of. A group of us went into a room with different models standing still. We then got the chance to walk up to the posed model and take in every detail of the design, the shoes, the make-up and the hair. Each model was holding a number, when FashionBite asked designer Hellen Van Rees why, she explained that she was inspired by Dior’s first catwalk shows, where each model would hold up a number like this.
Celebrity Highlight Of The Day?
I bumped into the T4 presenter Jameela Jamil outside Somerset House. She told me her favourite thing about Fashion Week is seeing all the street style, taking in everyone’s outfits and using the week as her wardrobe inspiration.
DAY 3….
What? Charlie May SS14 show
Where? St Martin’s Lane Hotel
Catwalk Song? The Spice Girls
Charlie May’s collection was clean and softly structured. When I talked to the designer after the show, she said her line was inspired by the English summer we’ve just had. She said it was such a nice one that she had become obsessed with summery dresses. The hair products used were Bumble and Bumble to achieve the wet look hair.
What? Eugene Lin SS14 Show (Image Credit: Fashion 156.com)
Where? Fashion Scout
Catwalk Song? Lady Gaga ‘Boys Boys Boys’
The invitation stated ‘wear white’ but it wasn’t only white we saw in the show, with orange and black also featuring heavily. It was the return of the halter neck and there were plenty of pleats, short-short skirts and white blazers. This collection had a distinctly sporty feel.
