Alexa Chung’s New Book ‘IT’…Our Thoughts
Guest Reporter Jessica Evans reviews Alexa Chung’s new book ‘IT’…
If anyone can write a book and call it ‘IT’, Alexa Chung can. The TV presenter is ridiculously cool, with impeccable style credentials, so it’s no wonder Chung fans are going crazy for IT. Alexa specifically states that her book is not a style bible, nor is it an autobiography, but a collection of personal notes, illustrations and photographs of the favourite things in life which inspire her… ranging from an electric mix of dinosaurs to the Spice girls.
With a winning combination of wit and honesty, the Brit beauty manages to reach out to the reader with her comical, tongue-in-cheek commentary. Including advice such as: “Boys say they don’t mind how you get your hair done. But then they leave you for someone with really great standard girl hair and the next thing you know you’re alone with a masculine crop crying into your granola.”
The book has been described as ‘one great big enhanced selfie’ but this seems unfair, as it features a lot more than the obvious selfie snaps, with authentic and sincere anecdotes about her lovelife and childhood.
There’s an incredibly moving chapter dedicated to Alexa’s heartbreak, which one can only assume is about Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner, whom she dated for four years. From humorously revealing that she googled ‘How long does heartbreak last for?’ to drunkenly asking Marianne Faithfull how did she get over Mick Jagger?! Alexa gives a piece of herself in the book which every reader can relate to, adding depth and realness to the book.
The most endearing note that she leaves us with is when she quotes her mother’s advice: “Nobody goes through life without having their heart broken and one day you’ll wake up and it will be okay.” Then underneath this, Alexa writes: “I can’t fucking wait for that day to come.” Refreshing? You betcha.
Fashion wise, Alexa thankfully shares a lot of her style icons and doesn’t hold back on this dear subject matter, allowing fans to get a true insight into the fashionista’s mind. From talking us through her morning routine, sitting front row at fashion week, how she chooses outfits, make up styles, and all the niggly bits in-between such as underwear, gym wear and hair appointments. Alexa does a pretty good job of touching on everything to do with the thinking behind her style, alongside social media, karaoke, friends and music!
