Meatopia, London

Meatopia, London

Meat. Drink. Fire. Music. That’s the crux of Meatopia’s manifesto, and we like it. Hailing from across the pond, the arrival of this unashamedly carnivorous food festival signals three full days of eating THE best meat, and doing very little else.

Fancy trying your favourite meats, cooked by some of the most respected chefs in London, washed down with top class beer and cocktails, to the background of some amazing music? We certainly do, and Meatopia’s the only place to do it.

A clarion call to meat lovers, Meatopia promises nothing but the best quality, locally sourced meat cooked by people who really know what they’re doing. Steak lovers should be aware that Richard H Turner, of London steak institutions Hawksmoor and Pitt Cue, no less, will be heading up proceedings, closely followed by acclaimed chef Fergus Henderson and Texan barbecue King Aaron Franklin.

Duck & Waffle’s Daniel Doherty will be serving up BBQ pig’s head, while Koya’s chef Junya Yamasaki will put a Japanese spin on the theme. Look out for Channel 4’s Cook Yourself Thin star Gizzi Erksine, too, who’ll be dishing up grilled Korean chicken wings with smashed cucumber. The very thought of it is making our stomachs ache.

When you can eat no more, we suggest heading to a dance tent to make a start on working off the calories (but maybe have a sit down first).  Lee Thompson’s Ska Orchestra will create a live Caribbean vibe, while Tom Findlay of Groove Armada spins some chilled out tunes. If you really can’t face bouncing around, be sure to check out the street performances that’ll be doing the rounds, or make your way to one of the many talks and demonstrations explaining how to cook food this incredible, in your own home.

Whatever you choose, it’s set to be an incredible day for fearless foodies. Definitely a day to leave the bodycon dress in the wardrobe…
