FIRST LOOK: JW Anderson For Versus Versace

Last night saw the launch of JW Anderson for Versus Versace, one of most anticipated fashion collections since Christopher Kane for Versus. The collection was launched at a party in New York and the event marks the first in a series of global launches for the brand, which will take it around the world – breaking fashion’s seasonal cycle by revealing new collections throughout the year and them making them available online shortly after.

The party was a fashion extravaganza, with over 1,600 guests, music, catwalk shows and a celebrity line-up including Mena Suvari, Heidi Klum and Paloma Faith.

Donatella Versace said: “The launch of Versus Versace brings together everything that I love: fashion, music, DJs, young people and their amazing energy. This mix of music and fashion captures the essence of Versus Versace, a label for a new global tribe.”

This is a major shift for a big global fashion brand, such as Versace, to change the seasonal patterns of its fashion collections, but I think it’s a fantastic step. Fashion works so far ahead of itself now, that it often forgets the consumer and what their needs are. When you can’t buy bikini’s during the summer months or coats in spring, there’s something seriously wrong. It will be interesting to see if Versace paves the way for other brands to follow suit. Check out Vogue.co.uk to see the full collection.

JW Anderson

JW Anderson has been heralded by some fashion editors as the “next Giovanni Versace” and his androgynous, ’90’s look has been a big hit on the London fashion scene for while now. He designed a capsule collection for Topshop last season and with a Versace collaboration under his belt, the British designer has his sites set on big things.

The new Versus Versace line is available online now, JW Anderson’s capsule collection will go live on June 15.
