Top 10 Christmas Hampers
Is it us, or has Christmas come early this year? Every which way we turn there are fairy lights, Christmas coffee adverts (Costa Salt Caramel Latte or Starbucks Praline Mocha, we can’t choose which to try first) and manic shoppers scanning the streets for stocking fillers.
Every December, panic starts to set in about what to buy who, from where and for how much… so this year I’ve decided to get organised and tackle the problem head on – I’ve found ten outstanding Christmas hampers that won’t break the bank and make the perfect gift for someone you’re not quite sure what to buy. My top ten are great for your boyfriend’s parents, the auntie who spoils you every year, your grandparents, friends and even your boss – if they’ve been very, very good that is…
1. Biscuiteers – Winter Wonderland Hamper, £125
I’ll start with the Biscuiteers Winter Wonderland hamper, which would make a memorable (if extravagant) git for your best friend or a female relative. Packed with stunning hand-iced biscuits in beautiful tins, tasty chocolates, limited edition tea towels, a cookery book, fruit cake and a cute gingerbread man, this wicker basket is full of bright, cheerful treats guaranteed to raise a smile. This hamper has a real homemade feel but maintains an air of complete luxury – if you’re now feeling inspired to bake, you can reuse the pretty biscuit tins to store your future creations!
2. Hampergifts – Deluxe Golden Tower, £49.95
There’s something truly decadent about the Hampergifts Deluxe Golden Tower, comprising eight compartments filled to the brim with sweet treats your whole family will enjoy. We thought this would make a great present for grandparents who love to share, with Belgian chocolate pieces, lemon butter cookies (so moreish!), chocolate coated pecans, honey roasted peanuts, fruit cake, pralines, truffles, vanilla crisp pieces (our favourite) and more. The best part? The gift wrapping is done for you.
3. Whisk Hampers – The Christmas Cracker Hamper, £39.50
Whisk Hampers are perfect for food lovers with a taste for good wine. We love this website for its wide range of combination hampers, fit to bursting with hand picked cheese crackers, wines, truffles, christmas cakes, jams and mince pies. The Christmas Cracker Hamper arrives in a festive red paper box that is pleasingly lightweight compared to other wicker hampers – great for carrying on long distance Christmas visits. Pate, mince pies and Stilton crackers will be a hit with your parents, while kids can devour the cute star-shaped truffles. A sure fire hit, for under £40!
4. Laithwaites – Luxury Wine Trio, £50
Earn some serious kudos with wine lovers by giving this stand-out trio – a great gift for your boss. For beverage buffs Laithwaites is synonymous with true indulgence, so you know your gift will be truly appreciated. This hamper shows off the best of British from an estate voted the best sparkling wine producer in the world, South Ridge. Try a rare boutique Kiwi Sauvignon from the tiny but multi medal-winning Brightwater estate in sunny Nelson, and a beautifully crafted Medoc claret, aged to silky perfection in a picturesque British riverside cellar. We think this is fantastic value, and the trio comes in a gorgeous wooden crate that will look great on display in any kitchen.
5. Lush – ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas, £49.95
For beauty queens, any Lush hatbox is a safe bet. Full to the brim with potent potions, any friend who likes to take care of herself and delights in trying out new products will jump for joy when presented with this gift. Lush has a huge range to choose from if you’d prefer to make up your own hamper of hand-picked products, but we love the luxurious ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas. A great edit of Christmassy shower gels, lotions, soaps and body scrubs, this collection guarantees the recipient will be refreshed, relaxed and smelling wonderful come Christmas morning.
6. Bettys – Christmas Gift Box, £50
I was majorly excited about featuring Betty’s in this post – as a student at the University of Leeds, trips to Betty’s tea rooms in York were par for the course – truly one of the things I miss most about living up North! We love the dainty, thoughtful packaging Betty’s Christmas Git Box comes in – all the hard work is done for you, and it will surely impress the lucky receiver. I think this would make the perfect token for your partner’s family, including a great selection of chocolate, festive coffee and tea, fruit cake and biscuits. If you live in the area, be sure to drop in and purchase a hamper, or order online. Don’t forget to pop a Fat Rascal or two in your basket… you won’t regret it!
7. Lakeland – Buttermere Hamper, £49.99
Do you have faithful Aunties, Uncles and cousins who always remember to put a tenner in your Christmas card? Why not make this Lakeland hamper your way of saying thank you. A great choice for older relatives, this trusted brand knows how to make use of all the old favourites – damson and port jam, chutney, sticky toffee chocolates, after dinner mints, Kendal mint cake and liqueur truffles. The contents are so varied, you can’t go far wrong.
Speaking as a self-confessed chocolate obsessive, I find this particular hamper the most exciting of all. For the amount of chocolate you get, this gift box comes at an almost unbelievably good price, showcasing best-selling flavours such as Dark with Burnt Toffee and Milk with Caramel. We adored the chic, subtle brown packaging of the Chocolate Lovers Collection, housing a myriad of rainbow coloured tasters – our only problem was that we didn’t know what to try first!
9. Abel & Cole – the price is up to you!
When buying thoughtful gifts for environmentally conscious comrades, you can’t beat Abel & Cole. I decided to take £50, roughly the same amount as the other hampers I’ve featured, and create my own bespoke gift box by picking and choosing my favourite products from the site. This took longer than I anticipated – the Christmas shop is full of organic, mouth-watering produce for meat eaters and veggies, as well as festive treats like treacle tart, mince pies, Stilton, smoked salmon, chutney and nuts. When my items arrived in an environmentally friendly van, in a recyclable box, I felt as though I’d done a little good in the world. Simply arrange your items in an old wicker basket, then dress up with raffia and ribbon. Thoughtful, individual AND climate neutral!
Last but not least, Hotel Chocolat’s Bliss Basket. Whenever I’m in panic-buy mode, I head to this shop in the hope they’ll have something a little off the wall to surprise my friends with. I love their chocolate slabs (the mini versions make brilliant cracker gifts and stocking fillers), but Hotel Chocolat gift hampers never fail to impress. The Bliss Basket includes small bottles of sparkling pink rosé and ruby port, truffles and adorable chilli penguins – there’s something for everyone in here. With presentation this immaculate, this one’s great for the in-laws. And if you like this, wait until you see their Easter eggs…
