3 Fashion Exhibitions You Must See This Weekend!
Stuck for ideas of what to do this weekend? We’ve been scouring London all week to bring you 3 new fashion exhibitions you must see this weekend…
Chanel The Little Black Jacket at Saatchi Gallery
If you are looking to inject a dazzle of style into your life this Sunday, look no further than Chanel’s Little Black Jacket. With its editorial style layout, the blown-up black and white images- featuring a who’s-who of the creative scene, blazoned onto the stark white walls of the Saatchi Gallery, makes you feel like you are Grace Coddignton – choosing which image should go where whilst picking a favourite a near impossible task. Karl Lagerfeld has photographed a collection of his most glamorous friends, from Sarah Jessica Parker, Stella Tennant, Lily Allen to Kanye West and Anna Wintour (looking slightly like Cousin IT) who have all been styled by Carine Roitfeld, whilst using just one, yep you guessed it, little black jacket. Afterwards, grab a coffee in one of the many cafés set within the stunning surroundings of Duke of York Square and (beautiful) people watch until your froth is left cold..my second favourite pastime.
Runs until November 4th 2012
Tim Walker: Story Teller at Somerset House
Prepare to leave feeling incredibly inspired by the luminous, experimental , visually stimulating mind and lens of photographer, Tim Walker. From an oversized swan, doll, aeroplane, newspaper and skeleton filling the space, has turned the serene rooms at Somerset House into a surreal, trippy experience of pure brilliance (now the BFC tent has been taken down after LFW you can really appreciate the historic stone beauty of its setting). The guy is an absolute genius – you will not see anyone create something as poetically striking, mesmerizing and thought provoking than a Walker vision and finally they are here, under one roof for us to fully immerse ourselves in. “Walker’s photographs remind us how to dream it again” as stated on the introductory wall and we couldn’t agree more. After, why not pop into the Vidal Sassoon: Outtakes exhibition down the corridor and realise, damn you really need a new hairstyle.
Runs until 27th January 2013 (Vidal Sassoon, 28th October 2012)
Sneaking into Fashion at Covent Garden Piazza
Javari are hosting the event that celebrates all things ‘sneaker’ related, not those tired old Puma’s you have slumped in the back of your wardrobe that shudder at the thought of pounding the running machine, but fabulous fashion ones of course! From Mo Farah’s gold-winning Nike Volts, Vivienne Westwood’s punk versions, Beyoncé’s ‘Love on Top’ Isabel Marants, Kanye’s £9000 Yeezys, Mel B’s buffalos, Reebok Insta Pumps, vintage Roger Bannister’s 1954 G T Laws and not forgetting the wacky creations by Jeffrey Campbell will be displayed for your sports-luxe pleasure. Covent Garden is the perfect Saturday destination for browsing, eating and being entertained (I think that’s the word they use) by the many street performers, so why not make a day and night of it. But remember, cobbles and your new Reiss stilettos, do not bode well.
Runs until 28th October 2012
