Our Top 5 Post-Holiday Beauty Products!
Ever been disappointed by just how quickly that holiday buzz fades? It seems you’ve only just set foot off the plane and already your tan is fading, your skin is dry and those beachy waves are looking a little frazzled and, frankly, a bit out of place. Welcome to the post holiday blues, a condition suffered by most of us returning to normality after a week or two in the sun. But don’t fret there are some remedies! Number 1: book another holiday, or number 2: follow our little guide to post holiday beauty.
The key to maintaining a natural tan is to moisturise…relentlessly. After-sun creams are great for hydrating parched skin, so don’t put yours away just yet, use it morning and evening to keep a tan looking fresh for longer. If you’re really clever (or really in denial about the end of your holiday) use an after-sun with a touch of self tan like this one from Clarins to maintain and deepen a tan.
When it comes to re-hydrating your face however, after-sun just won’t cut it. Invest in a nourishing treatment designed specifically for the face. We have just discovered this After-Sun face mask from Jamela Skincare and we love it. Apply a generous dollop of this cooling gel to your face before you go to bed then rinse off in the morning. Skin feels soft and hydrated and very soothed – it would also work a treat on sun-burn!
An even better way of prolonging a tan? Exfoliate. Contrary to popular belief, exfoliating doesn’t scrub off a tan (unless it’s fake) but gets rid of the dry skin that can mask a tan. Kill two birds with one scrub and use a moisturising exfoliator like this one from the sanctuary which polishes and cleanses skin with sugar and olive stone granules while also nourishing with cocoa butter and shea leaving skin feeling soft, smooth and looking healthy.
And since we all know how much sun can damage our hair it only makes sense that frazzled locks need a bit of post holiday TLC too. We’re big fans of Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask to re-hydrate hair. Apply to towel dried hair and leave on for 5-10 minutes before rinsing out. Do this a couple of times a week after a holiday to restore shine, elasticity and manageability.
Don’t forget your feet, they’ve no doubt spent the last couple of weeks in a pair of thinly soled flip flops and hopping over hot sand. Massage yours with some soothing foot lotion like The Body Shop’s Peppermint Cooling Foot Lotion which leaves feet, soft smooth and smelling delicious!
