MUSIC REVIEW – Newton Faulkner ‘Write It On Your Skin’
Lifestyle Reporter: Amy Everett
Surrey-born acoustic guitar virtuoso Newton Faulkner is back with a new album Write It On Your Skin after a three year hiatus.
Since his last album ‘Rebuilt By Humans’ was released in 2009, Newton has toured the world, inspiring a new generation of singer-songwriters to pursue their dream.
Now he’s back with a sunny, upbeat album that offers the perfect antidote to this summer’s miserable weather.
The absurdly talented pop muso has enlisted his brother Toby, a former drum and bass MC, to co-write a brace of up tempo songs that will make your heart sing. Together the brothers have managed to encapsulate everything that we love about Newton Faulkner without echoing his previous albums too much.
Write It On Your Skin is full of atmospheric songs that exude a real grassroots festival vibe, combining a heady mix of soothing vocals and sparkling folksy pop beats.
Faulkner’s new single ‘Clouds’ is a reassuring, life-affirming affair imploring us to stop worrying about what other people think and just be ourselves, while ‘Soon’ takes a more downbeat, contemplative turn, promising: ‘For once in your life, it’s gonna be alright, whatever keeps you alive, don’t question why’.
A rousingly positive album that somehow manages to convince you that if things aren’t great right now, it won’t be long until they are.
Newton Faulkner ‘Write It On Your Skin’ is out on Monday July 9.
