NEW SEASON: Bastyan collaborates with young designers for SS12
Contemporary womenswear brand Bastyan has collaborated with young design talent – including textiles specialist Vanessa Harrington and fashion designer Yong Fong – for the first time next season, on a limited edition clothing and lifestyle range.
For SS12, textile designer Vanessa Harrington has developed an exclusive print for Bastyan Collaborare, which stems from her obsession with identity. The print combines the scientific imagery of DNA and X-rays, with the soft floral look of nature. If you look closely, what appears to be a delicate flower is actually a brain X-ray and a beautiful butterfly is in fact a make-up of DNA coding and fingerprints. I love the element of suprise and the unexpected with this unusual design.
The print appears on five garments; including a shirt dress and draped maxi, two scarves and some stunning limited edition cups and saucers, which would make great gifts! The clothing was designed by Yong Fong, who has previously worked for design house Alexander McQueen, before setting up his own label and selling to the likes of Harvey Nichols and Liberty. The collection will be available online at Bastyan.co.uk from March next year.
If you can’t wait that long for a sneak preview, Bastyan has launched a pop-up shop in London, which is open now and for the next five weeks in the run-up to Christmas. The temporary store, which is located at 288-294 Regent Street, will showcase current season autumn/winter product, as well as offering a sneak preview of what’s in store next season.
