Asos Marketplace launches

Exciting news for all you budding fashion retailers out there- ASOS has launched its new Marketplace at www.marketplace.asos.com.

ASOS Marketplace is a new digital platform where boutiques, vintage collectors, individuals and designers can sell their products.

The new site has been built as a ‘fashion democracy,’ so users and sellers can photograph themselves in their much-loved items, talk about their individul style and what they love about the pieces they are selling.

The site will leverage ASOS’ existing 2 million active customers and sellers will be given advice from the ASOS team on how to display their items to maximise selling potential.

Fashion buyer Jemma Dyas has recently been appointed as Marketplace Fashion Scout. She will ensure the retail edit remains fresh and relevant…so any dodgy pics will be vetoed!

Boutiques wishing to host a virtual stall will be subject to a selective acceptance process, the most successful applicants will collectively form the first 100 Marketplace boutiques, with optional business mentorship from ASOS. Browns Focus has been confirmed as one of the initial signings.

A 10% selling fee will apply to individuals for each item sold, with no listing fees or pricing menus. Those who successfully apply for a boutique will pay £50 per month (which includes an Account Manager at ASOS, ability to customise their store front and some premium on Marketplace) and a 15% fee on each sale.

ASOS womenswear buying director Caren Downie says: “Marketplace is an exciting addition to ASOS. It allows us to extend our offer and enables our customers to discover even more fashion online. It fits perfectly into our creation of an online fashion destination. Interest from applicants has been very strong, and we are looking forward to seeing our customers’ reaction.”
