Burberry launches social networking site

artofthetrench-300x168 Iconic British brand Burberry has teamed up with facebook to launch a social networking site which celebrates the trenchcoat. The site invites photographers and trench coat lovers to take pics of themselves outside wearing a Burberry trenchcoat. You can then upload the pics via facebook, which has a link on the site. Trench wearers can submit as many pics as they like and Burberry will pick its favourites to feature on the site.

The trench was first designed by Burberry founder Thomas Burberry for British Army officers in 1914, and it’s still one of Burberry’s top sellers! You can read more about the history of the trench on the site.

To kick-start the launch, photographer Scott Schuman from fashion blog The Sartorialist has taken some fantastic pics of Burberry trench coat wearers from cities across the world, such as London, Milan, New York and Sao Paulo-you can check them out for yourselves on the site.

Social media has become such a key way for brands to communicate to younger shoppers. I wonder how many other designers will follow in Burberry’s footsteps…?

So…dust off your trench and get posing!
