Korean Brunch at Jinjuu, Soho

WHAT? Mountains of KFC (that’s Korean Fried Chicken), super fresh sashimi, umami beef dumplings and the absolute best of the usual brunch trimming. All served up on giant sharing boards at the weekends – this is Jinjuu.

WHERE: Tucked away behind buzzy Kingly Court (perfect for ducking in off Carnaby Street on a rainy day) you’ll find the spot, with lush dark interiors and neon Korean signage. Eager waiters buzz around, keen to explain the menu – which will baffle even the most decisive diners. Delicious-smelling, totally distracting plates soared past our heads to other tables as we attempted to pick a winner, finally settling on the traditional ‘Weekend Brunch‘ offering.

The three-course feast is £27, and you can go bottomless for £45 – a steal when you consider the spread. We loved Jinjuu’s take on what’s become a tradition in London, as it’s not restricted to bloating Prosecco.

Choose from red or white wine, Korean beer, or bubbles (and don’t forget a Mojito or Spiced Kimchi Mary is included, too). All this in 90 minutes – it’s a challenge, but hey, we’ve all got to set ourselves goals.

La Kimchi Madame is something special, combining toasted sourdough, kimchi Bechamel, ham and melted cheese, then topped with a fried duck egg & served with truffle fries.

Elsewhere, the honey butter French toast might tempt you, with potato chip-crusted shokupan and bacon bits. Less carby but equally indulgent is Bulgogi beef fillet, served with a hot stone to cook tabletop. A trio of dipping sauces provides endless fun: perilla leaf chimichurri, truffle & seaweed aioli and a soy & ginger glaze.

Dessert is not to be skipped, ‘shaved ice’ turning out to be a *lot* more indulgent than it might sound. Matcha tea ribbon ice is topped with starfruit and berries – a welcomly zingy end to a filling meal.

For atmosphere and price, we’d recommend Jinjuu in a heartbeat – seconds from Oxford Street, with a passionate manager, excellent food and dishes a lot different than the usual Saturday morning fare. Gone are the days of forking out £35 for poached eggs on toast and Prosecco. Just get your shopping done before you sit down, lest you want to head home with a bag full of outfits one size too big…

Jinjuu is taking part in Carnaby London’s amazing initiative Carnaby Eats (running until 30th September!), bringing together all the best restaurants and bars in the area for a festival of feasting. Get down there for cocktail masterclasses, amazing discounts, live music and something *very* intriguing called a ‘snack station’. You know we’ll be there.
