REVIEW: Maria Sabina @ Roof East, Stratford

Roof East stratford

WHAT? An authentic Mexican street food stall serving up spicy tacos and smooth guac at Stratford’s super fun Roof East and Pop Brixton, Maria Sabina is perfect for quick catch ups and late night boozing while enjoying the last of the warm summer evenings.

WHY GO? The chefs behind this fun little stall cut their teeth at Cafe Pacifico, one of London’s most famous Mexican restaurants – so the food is reliably good, everything made from scratch where possible, using the freshest ingredients and traditional methods.

HOW MUCH? Prices are super reasonable – from Monday to Friday (12pm til’ 3:30 pm) you can grab a ‘Tacombo’ taco deal, comprising six tacos and your choice of fillings for £5. Add guac for £1!

We caught the lift up from Stratford train station to Roof East on a balmy Thursday evening, ready to line our stomachs for crazy golf at Birdies (highly recommended) and Rooftop Film Club (even better). We sampled guac and chips (£4.50, vegan *and* gluten-free – a thumbs up from us) alongside a mix of quesadillas and tacos filled with chicken, pork and fish – delicious!

If you’re making the journey, we advise booking one or two activities in advance (bowls was super busy!), bringing a wooly jumper and getting there before summer’s gone.
