Review: A Rural Spa Day At Ragdale Hall

Review, a spa day at Ragdale Hall, FashionBite

Tucked away in the rural Leicestershire countryside is Ragdale Hall, a winding rabbit warren of a hotel and spa – this place is huge – with one of the biggest spa facilities I’ve been to.

My friend and I headed down on a Sunday morning, which is not great if you’re traveling from London as the trains take about double the time (it’s normally about an hour from London during the rest of the week), so it’s probably worth staying the night if you can. But the feeling of getting out of London and into the countryside is relaxation in itself.

We were on a day spa package, which included a mini massage/facial, lunch and use of the spa facilities. As the journey time was quite long, we arrived late morning/lunchtime and once we’d checked in headed straight for some lunch. Packed full of other spa goers, dressed in white robes with fresh faces, we sat down to enjoy lunch and a glass of bubbly.

Lunch was a buffet, which makes sense when catering for the numbers of people that must go through the doors each day, and it was lovely. It felt slightly like an all-inclusive holiday, but it did the job and we filled up before heading off to our treatments.

Journeying through the winding corridors, when I say this place is massive that’s not an understatement, we headed to the treatment rooms where we had our mini facial/massage. It was lovely and relaxing, I would have liked a head massage after my face mask was applied, that tends to be the done thing in London spa’s now but other than that it was all very wonderful.

But the jewel in the crown for Ragdale clearly is their thermal spa facilities, which included everything you could possibly imagine and more. There was so much to do, that I kept thinking how good it would be to bring a bunch of girlfriends here and make a proper weekend of it. Would be great for a hen do too.

First off, we entered the Candle Pool, which was an underground mosaic cavern lit by candles and playing relaxing classical music. I loved this room, such a great idea.

My friend and I spent a lot of time in the indoor.outdoor waterfall pool, where you started off inside and followed it round to be outside like a moat circling the spa. It was well heated and really great to be outdoors, there was even a thunderstorm whilst we were there which was cool.

Volcanic salt baths, jasmine colourful cave rooms, rose sauna’s, steam rooms, relaxation pods, you name it this place has it. We really didn’t have enough time to get round it all, which is why an overnight stay is probably a good idea, but it was great to spend the afternoon there and we felt incredibly refreshed on the train back up to London.
