Paris Fashion Week Hotspot: ‘Le Bar Du Bristol’

Le Bristol Paris is the first hotel in France to be awarded ‘Palace’ status, boasting a beautiful bar that has become the place to enjoy a drink or two in the capital.  Designed by renowned architect Pierre-Yves Rochon and Mrs Maja Oetker, this is the perfect setting for the ultimate rendez-vous, found within a hotel of almost mythical extravagance and size.

Between its gorgeous glass roof, mural fresco by renowned French artist Thierry Bruet and authentic Aubusson tapestry by Charles Pinncedil, we’d liken the space to a museum rather than a bar. The area retains an air of mystery and allure thanks to a thick pair of silk curtains, closing visitors off from the outside world. The furnishings are opulent, classical and well-thought out, reminding us of old English clubs with wooden flooring and wall panelling.

Duck-egg blue wall seats made by the prestigious Venetian company Rubelli sit alongside small but perfectly formed English Petworth chairs in red and blue Italian leather, but it has to be said our favourite pieces are the Giacometti stools from the House of Porto Romana, decorated with leopard-effect fabric produced by silk manufacturer Le Manach. Furnishings in the bar include beautifully-made ochre-coloured winged armchairs that would be perfect for sinking into after a long day’s sight-seeing!

Every night, a huge mirror becomes a screen reflected in the 18th Century French mirror hanging opposite the stunning open fireplace, while bottles of unique or exceptional alcohol chosen by Head Barman Maxime Hoerth are displayed in showcases that make up the lower half of the bar’s gargantuan bookcase. We could sit for hours poring over the dusty tomes contained within!

A delectable gourmet menu is available for peckish punters, offering quick snacks that will stop the all-too-easy-too-drink cocktails going to your head. Try the Maki rolls with King Crab and vegetables in spicy ketchup, or (our favourite) Gambas Tempura with ginger and coriander mayonnaise. Chicken wings in satay sauce and Pata Negra ham should satisfy your appetite while your make your way through the sizeable cocktail list!

Catch one of the selection of DJs that will be playing from Thursday to Saturday evenings from 9.30pm – the ambience of the room shifts instantly with a quick change  of lighting, depending on who’s at the decks. Tuesday and Thursday nights offer a more refined vibe, once the three-piece jazz set shows up to accompany the pianist.

This bar offers the perfect taste of Parisian ostentatiousness – if you have a taste for finery or want to party like a princess, you have to pay Le Bar Du Bristol a visit.
