NEW SEASON BEAUTY: Autumn/Winter Goes Gothic

As summer slowly draws to an end and shops start filling up with some of Autumn/Winter’s  finest the time to pack up your spring/summer fluoros and pastels is fast approaching. Take a deep breath and get ready to move over to the dark side next season as beauty gets a gothic make over.

After designers like Givenchy, Jean Paul Gaultier and Roberto Cavalli went for ghostly looks in their  A/W 2012-13 shows it would appear that the goth-look is well and truly back. But dispel any images you might have of powder-white faces, black lipstick and Rage Against the Machine scrawled across a backpack, next season’s hottest beauty trend (dubbed the ‘new goth’) is  less angry teenage and more smouldering temptress.

This year’s goth is all about heavy eyes, striking lips and a more natural pallor than recent seasons. Go for black, dark browns and deep purples on eyes and wear it very smudged underneath the lower lashes.

Dress lips in varying shades of berry, the ‘new goth’ doesn’t necessarily require the darkest of shades. Pair pale brown lips with heavy eyes and long hair a la Jean Paul Gaultier or if you’re feeling daring, go all with out matching dark eyes and lips like Givenchy.

Wear hair long and loose for an ethereal effect or pulled back into a low bun for a modern, androgynous take on the look and keep the parting central for added drama.

Finally beware bronzer and embrace your natural autumn/winter skin-tone and above all else… do not smile.
