Middlesex University Graduate Fashion Show – Ones To Watch!

Middlesex University Fashion Graduate Show: Ones To Watch, FashionBiteFashion Reporter, Sian O’Donnell

Middlesex University showcased their Final 2012 Graduate Fashion & Textiles Collection at The Truman Brewery last week and luckily, FashionBite was there to join in the celebration.

It may have been raining where you were but that was because all the colour and cheer had been zapped up into a capsule on Brick Lane and then dropped in dramatic fashion, exploding onto the catwalk with full exuberance, certainty and a whole lot of silly fun.

From neon Cookie Monster infused grime, Pikachu headwear, re-worked ski mask bras and Lego rucksacks to virginal sheer veils and stockings, metal apron menswear and silver vixens that strutted with as much vitality as any 20-something in eccentric beaded chiffon and psychedelic, Wally glasses. Here’s FashionBite’s Top 4 to watch out for:

Athanasia Amvrosiou

The headwear ruled for this graduate with a Pikachu inspired cone hat that sent us bonkers with lust – we want one for the festival season! The strong retro graphic print that circled the front of each piece, the dynamic colour clash, the fabulous lego creation and exquisite details of white sheer that sprouted from ankle socks and petticoats under apron front dresses, pulled all six looks together wonderfully. We want one of those quilted (Pokémon favoured) 3D bags please!

Helena Mula-Domenech

Part virginal bride, part white witch with a touch of Maid Marion, all handled with absolute refinement. The delicacy of the fabric, the intricacy of the detailing and the cut out features that peaked out so tantalisingly from underneath the translucent material, that was just as interesting as the beautiful cut of the veil dress. Dracula certainly wouldn’t have been able to resist this sexy ethereal number and who can blame him.

This textile student is proving herself to be the quite the craftswoman with this utterly stunning collection of prints that were so well processed – it is hard to believe this is not the work of an established designer. Based around the garden jacket, the Japanese inspired floral design floated down the catwalk with such beauty. The overlapping roses in a sea of pinks, blues and reds over a subtle trouser suit was simply stunning. Perfect for any occasion this summer, gardening has never been so chic!

Now this is what we call sculptural! The extreme boxy hanger shoulders, the lampshade skirt, the mesh side panelling, the neon Zorro mask and glowing bulls eye target, saw a collection that Queen of silhouette, Mary Katrantzou, would be proud of. Finished off with a tiered fan from the back of the skirt with metallic rim… it is the perfect choice for casual Fridays in the office!
