Portman Village – For destination London shopping off the beaten track!

Nestled behind the North End of Oxford Street, a stone’s throw away from the regal Portman Square, lies a luxury shopping destination bursting with independent fashion and beauty boutiques…

If you enjoy wandering off the beaten track, then Portman Village is a great place to discover – a fantastic shopping space bustling with cafes, restaurants and fashion/beauty stores.

As the sun shone down on a beautiful London day…I was treated to a fabulous afternoon of shopping and beauty treatments as a guest of the Village…

FASHION BOUTIQUE – Fashion Capital

First stop was Fashion Capital, a fashion boutique stocking young, emerging British designers. It is the concept store for industry body Fashion Enter, which offers support, mentoring, professional advice and seminars to help support emerging design talent.

The boutique sells the collections of British designers such as Emma Cook, Hemyca, and Atlanta Weller and looks after some 27 London Fashion Week designers. To help support the young designers, it also features a showroom space downstairs for press and buyers. Designers include:

  • Zoe Boomer

Zoe-Boomer, Fashion Capital, fashionBiteNorthern Irish designer Zoë Boomer designs clothes that combine simplicity, style and luxury. Using the best silks and silk-chiffons she successfully manipulates fabric to fuse elegance and romance to her designs.

  • Paolita

Paolita, Fashion Capital, FashionBiteBeachwear label Paolita focuses on fabulous swimwear and aims to create shapes that compliment the figure ensuring women feel comfortable and sexy on the beach. With a nod to a by-gone era, the designs are fun, stylish and cheeky.

  • Hemyca

hemyca, Fashion Capital, FashionBiteHemyca designers Helen and Myra – both graduates of the London College of Fashion – worked for leading designers such as Ben de Lisi and Roland Mouret before launching their own label in 2006. Hemyca’s strengths lie firmly in its exquisite tailoring. Clean strong lines with an emphasis on the waist providing a powerful and ultra-feminine silhouette. The label is worn by the likes of Cheryl Cole, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Lisa Snowdon and Kimberley Stewart.

BEAUTY ROSE – Eyelash Perming

Portman Village, Beauty Rose, FashionBiteAfter a meander down the street, I was treated to an eye-lash tint and perm by Katja, the lovely owner of beauty salon Beauty Rose.

The salon offers a range of treatments including facials, spa experiences and hair removal.

It was the first time I’ve had my eyelashes permed (or tinted)…so I couldn’t wait to see what they looked like! The treatments took around an hour and I was really amazed by the results. I naturally have fairly long eyelashes, but with the perming my lashes were curled outwards and upwards – as if I’d had eyelash curlers on them for the last half an hour…the effect was incredible. If you have shorter or straighter eyelashes, I highly recommend it!

The tint – I chose blue/black – which was the darkest shade on offer, just added to the effect. It looked like I was wearing false eyelashes, without the glue. I had the treatments about 8 weeks ago and although my eyelashes have fallen slightly, they are still very curled and I still don’t need to wear mascara.

LEMONGRASS BOUTIQUE SPA – Thai Herb Compress Massage

Portman Village, Thai Lemongrass, FashionBiteI ended my pampering afternoon at the Lemongrass Boutique Spa, which has recently launched at Portman Village and offers a truly relaxing Thai experience. From traditional Thai massages, herbal compresses and Thai Erb Body Scrubs to pedicures, tints and a range of Thai inspired beauty treatments.

I experienced the Thai Herbal Compress Massage, which was a deep body massage. Handmade herbal balls (containing a fusion of 20 different natural herbs) were heated using steamers and then slowly massaged into different points on my back and body. As the herbal balls were pounded into my skin, the heat stimulated deep into my muscles and the gorgeous aroma helped me drift off and relax. Lemongrass Boutique Spa founder Natda Chatfield said: “It is a traditional Thai massage technique that has been used medically for centuries.”

The Spa is open at 8a Seymour Place everyday from 10-11pm, visit its website at for more info.
